Then thereРІР‚в„ўs the issue of its end cheeks. Why? Life is already difficult enough without Roland adding unnecessary problems. Arghh! Just as I thought that Roland had stopped hobbling their own products, I find that I still wonРІР‚в„ўt be able to play the Jupiter and Juno expansions as I would the originals. I was also amazed at how small it is, which is a consequence of its 49-note keyboard. But that instrument seems to have stood the test of time, so IРІР‚в„ўm not going to make any snap judgments about the System 8. I first encountered this on a Roland polysynth when I reviewed the Juno Stage, whereupon I was dubious about its robustness and longevity. Taking the System 8 out of its box, I was amazed at how light it is, which is a consequence of its plastic chassis. But things canРІР‚в„ўt be that simple, can they? First impressions With appropriate polyphony and a full-size keyboard, it seems that Roland have responded to their fans and designed exactly what theyРІР‚в„ўve been requesting. This leaves a third slot into which you can drop any of the current plug-outs although you can, of course, delete and replace the Jupe and the Juno if you are mad enough to want to do so. Originally, it was shipped with just a Jupiter 8 expansion, but this has since been joined by a hybrid Juno 60/106 expansion, both of which are included in the price. Now the company have responded with the System 8, which offers double the polyphony and, in addition to its own synth engine, no fewer than three slots capable of hosting RolandРІР‚в„ўs plug-outs and expansions. Unfortunately, these retained the four-voice limitation of the System 1, so you needed to buy two of each to play them like the original synths. The following year, Roland released three Boutique modules that further mined the companyРІР‚в„ўs considerable legacy, recreating the look and feel of three classic polysynths: the Jupiter 8, Juno 106 and JX-3P. This was a shame because musicians had been crying out for recreations of RolandРІР‚в„ўs classic synths and, in 2014, an instrument capable of hosting one of its РІР‚Вplug-outРІР‚в„ў vintage monosynths was in principle a winner.

The AIRA System 1 was a great idea, but perhaps not aimed at professional keyboard players because its four-voice polyphony and 25-note keyboard placed obvious limitations on what they could do with it. My wife hates that thing because I spend so (too?) much time in front of it.The System 8 may offer РІР‚Вplug-outРІР‚в„ў recreations of Roland classics, but itРІР‚в„ўs also a versatile synthesizer with a character all of its own. All plugout slots are loaded and it sounds incredible and is a joy to play and edit. I think this is a complete synth now (and was before), I am ok with the build quality, keyboard is not too bad.

They released a free System 8 engine update which in itself is amazing and then after almost 2 years they released the JX3P upgrade, again for free. The System 8 was released in 2016, they promised to release the Juno plugout and they did.

Comes with all sounds from the XV or JV and is a great rompler - but a lot more - if that is what you are looking for. Same lack of quality which gets me suspicious of pulling the trigger on an Integra or on the System-8 itself for that matter. My two Varios didn't grow at all, and are still doing the same thing they did decade and half ago.Р”Р„t least they don't have the same lack of quality of the Fantom XR or Juno G I had, which quickly had dead LCD displays, replaced then dead again right after. However, Roland at the time announced it as an 'open platform', that would grow over time. I still use a pair of them, one running the D-50 emulation and one running the Varios-8 (sorta like a Jupiter 8).
